Now that's a toy car: Toyota unveils screen covered car for young drivers

The fridge has become the traditional place for proud parents to show off their children's artistic skills.

However, Toyota believes that the family artistic talent could soon be on a more display - taking over the bonnet of the car.

It has revealed a car with a giant screen for a bonnet - and hopes parents will upload their child's artwork.

HOW IT WORKS

A scanner on the dashboard is used to capture any drawing or image.

Over 7,000 LEDs are built into the hood of the car.

The images can be instantly changed at the press of a button.

The car also has a three seat design, so children can look over the driver's shoulder and feel like they are driving.

The previous version of the concept had the same unique three seater design.

Instead of screens, it had a number of customised interchangeable panels that the firm said 'helped parents and children share the joy of driving and customising.'

However, the firm decided to update the concept with a screen.

Called the Camatte 1, the customizable, sporty, family-oriented concept was shown at the International Tokyo Toy Show at the weekend.

However, the firm refused to say is the car will ever make it into production.

It is unknown whether the three seater will go into production.

Toyota's booth, called the Camatte Lab, is divided into two zones: a Tech Lab that lets visitors get an up-close look at the inner workings of the car, and a hands-on Design Lab that allows visitors to easily customize a Camatte.

The name Camatte is based on the Japanese word for caring and is meant to signify 'caring for others' and 'caring for cars'.
