A new gadget called Fizzics (pictured) promises the perfect head on beer by using sound waves

Getting the perfect head on a glass of beer can be a fine art. 

But a new gadget promises to create the optimum amount of foam every time using sound waves.

Called Fizzics, the machine claims to offer to 'elevate store bought beer into a draft quality beer, the way the brewers intended it to taste' and can be used with any beer of a user's choice.

It pumps high-frequency sound waves through beer to make thick foam to sit on top, enhancing the flavour of the drink.

Beer is inserted into the prototype gadget and connected with a plastic tube so that once the lid is closed, the liquid is sealed in an airtight container. 

Users then push a lever forward on top of the device to suck beer through a nozzle, before pushing it back again to pump high-frequency sound waves though the liquid, to produce thick foam.

In particular, the gadget is concerned with three different phases of 'fizz'.

Nucleation, when the bubbles start to form, beading, which is when the bubbles rise to form a head, and disproportionation, which is when the bubbles mature. 

Fizzics reduces excessive bubble formation by pressurising the canister and pouring the beer at a controlled rate.

This is done by using high frequency sound waves and oscillation technology without the need for CO2.

And it means that the foam produced is thicker with smaller bubbles and lasts longer than for beer simply poured from a bottle into a glass. 

The Manchester, New Hampshire-based company said on its website: 'Fizzics was engineered for your five senses and delivers visually appealing head, wonderful aromatic bouquet, and sensual liquid and foam mouthfeel making for an authentic, true representation of an expertly poured pint.

'To accomplish this, we focus on beer head, controlled pressure flow and fluid and gas dynamics, creating a rich, creamy foam that enhances appearance, texture, smoothness and mouthfeel.'

And it added that the bubbles and foam are an integral part of beer quality and experience, from being visually appealing, to enhancing the flavour and aroma of a pint. 

Connoisseurs say beer with a flatter head doesn't taste as good and that small bubbles in thick foam make the drink taste smoother.

The gadget will be available to pre-order on Indiegogo this coming week, Gizmodo reported, for a reduced price of the recommended retail price of $200 (£132).

THE RISE OF THE KEGARATOR

Having beer on tap was once a distant dream for many.

But the rise of the Kegerator - a combination between a keg and a refrigerator - has meant that freshly poured, draught beer is being enjoying in homes across the country.

The concept was born out of the DIY skill sharing community when those desperate for beer on tap found ingenious ways to get it by re-engineering their fridges.

And it quickly caught on commercially. 

For instance, Wisconsin-based Nostalgia Electronics is now offering its 'Kegorator Beer Keg Fridge' for around $600 (£360).

The pressurised system claims to keep beer carbonated for weeks and has a portable unit with rolling casters to move it to any location.

Last year, Heineken teamed up with Krups and industrial engineer Marc Newton to create a home draft beer gadget named 'The Sub,' for a smaller price tag.

The 16-inch (41cm) device looks like a metal beer cask with a tap connected at one end. The body sits on a base and it has a red button at the front to switch the device on.

It can be filled with Torps, which are pressurised modules that hold two litres of beer, with different types ordered from the company.

The Torps are placed horizontally into a circular compartment in the middle of the machine and allow the user to pour as much or as little as they like.

The Sub costs €249 (£195) and is available in four European countries. It's set to launch in Britain this year, but now release date has been confirmed for the US.
