Forget mood rings, now there's a mood WATCH: Timepiece tracks how you're feeling on a Happiness Index

Mood rings that changed colour based on a person's temperature were all the rage during the 1990s.

But now there is a much more high-tech, scientific way to track how you're feeling - the Asus VivoWatch with Happiness Index.

VivoWatch tracks the wearer's activity levels and sleeping habits before awarding their overall wellbeing a numerical score on this index.

It is the first Asus wearable to focus on wellness and fitness.

The watch's sensor uses VivoPulse technology and, during exercise, gives instant and continuous feedback about the wearer's workout using an LED.

When the wearer reaches their aerobic heart rate zone - when cardiovascular exercise effectively burns calories, strengthens the heart, and increases stamina - the LED turns green.

If the level of intensity is too high, causing the wearer's heart rate to rise to the limit, the LED indicator turns red to warn them of over-exertion.

And while sleeping, the VivoWatch measures the total sleep time, heart rate, and how much they move.

Once it has collected this activity and sleep information, the watch generates a numeric score on the Happiness Index that offers a summary of the overall healthiness of their lifestyle.

A low score lets the wearer know that they should adjust their exercise and sleep habits to achieve optimal health.

While a normal or high score provides motivation to maintain their healthy lifestyle and try to earn a higher score.

Wearers can also see the scores of family members or friends who also wear the VivoWatch.

Elsewhere, Asus claims the £119.99 VivoWatch has a 10-day battery life, and the watch case is IP67 water-resistant.

It goes on sale in the UK in May.
